Day 65: Five reasons Harry Potter is a terrible friend to Ron

1.  He has giant piles of money and never gives any of it to Ron

In the first book the idea is introduced that Harry is a freaking millionaire.

We also find out that Harry's best friend Ron is poor as shit.

Harry is set for life.  Meanwhile Ron has hand me down robes and cheap books, and is probably slightly malnourished during the summer.

(Ron was starving)

Harry Potter is also Harry freaking Potter.  People buy him shit all the time.  That awesome Nimbus 2000 Harry got in the first book?

McGonagal gave it to him.  He didn't even have to dip into his giant piles of money because his teacher bought it for him.  Is that even allowed?

And that awesome firebolt broom, Harry bought that himself, right?
Nope.  That was all Sirius.

Harry's first Christmas he gets a ton of presents from the Weasleys.
They give him new clothing!
He even gets a mother freaking invisibility cloak which is the coolest gift of all time.  What does Harry get Ron?
Harry doesn't get Ron shit.

Even with all his giant piles of money and everyone buying him everything, Harry Potter doesn't get Ron anything.  He doesn't throw the impoverished kid a damn dime.

At the Yule Ball, Harry is dressed to the freaking nines while Ron is having a panic attack because he has to wear him grandmothers raggedy decaying dress.  His humiliation is so great, Ron asks Harry Potter to murder him.
(Damn, it's good to be a potter)

Harry did however give $10,000 dollars (1000 galleons) to Ron's more popular and more successful brothers Fred and George to start their magic business.

As a result he gets a LIFETIME SUPPLY of anything that he wants from the shop.

But that should benefit Ron, right?  He's their brother.
When he tries to get stuff for free and play the brother card, Fred and George tell him it'll cost twice as much because he's their brother.

2.  Harry not only never gives Ron money, he also financially ruins him

Harry does a number on the poor Weasley's finances.
In the first movie where Ron gets freaking stabbed helping Harry get the Sorcerers Stone.  Do you think Harry helped pay for his hospital bills?
Heck no.

The Weasley's magical flying car is also completely destroyed by a freaking tree.  They had to take the flying car because Dobby tried to stop Harry from getting into the hogwarts entrance.  Again, Ron suffering because of Harry's shit.
Their only family car is lost forever.  No way Harry helped them buy a new one.  I guess he won't have one when he turns 16.

And while their car is being demolished to a pulp, Ron's wand also breaks.

Which causes all kinds of trouble for him for an entire year, including puking slugs and in general being terrible at magic at a school dedicated to LEARNING MAGIC.

But Ron is way too poor to buy a new one.  If only he had a friend who could spot him some money.

OH YEAH.  There was also that time the Ron's mother trucking house got blown up protecting Harry Potter.

3.  Harry is bad for Ron's health

Now, I know Ron is willingly putting himself at risk, but still he's sustained a TON of injuries helping Harry.  WAY more than Hermione.  From getting stabbed by a chess piece, to almost killed by a tree, nearly murdered by spiders, drug by his leg into a tree by a crazed dog he has been through the ringer.

Let's also not forget the time that Ron ate Harry's chocolates which were poisoned with love potion.  The poor kid was probably just hungry.

Then immediately afterwards Ron is poisoned with actual poison.

And he nearly dies.  And again he ends up with a hospital stay he probably can't afford.
I know Ron CHOOSES to go on most of these adventures, but for the number of times Ron has saved Harry's life or nearly died for him, Harry could at least get the poor kid a Christmas present.

4.  Any time they fight, Harry just waits for Ron to apologize.

In the Goblet of Fire, Ron thinks Harry put his name in for the triwizard tournament.  They are fighting and won't even speak?
How do they sort out their differences?  Well Harry does what any good friend would do and just waits for Ron to apologize.

Now it sucked that Ron didn't believe Harry about putting his name in for the Triwizard Tournament.  But Ron has been living in Harry's giant money filled shadow for his whole life, so Harry should show a little more sympathy.  The prize for winning is also 10,000 dollars which is more money than Ron will see in his entire lifetime.  Harry just waits for Ron to admit he's wrong, and when he finally does, Harry calls him "mental" for using a convoluted method of telling him about the dragons.  He could have, you know...thanked him for saving his ass by warning him about the dragons.

Then in the final book, when things are weird between Harry and Hermione, Ron leaves and is on his own for a long freaking time.  He asks Hermione to come with him, but gets shut down hard.   When he comes back, he saves Harry's freaking life by pulling him out of a lake.

And Harry never apologizes or even thanks him for saving his life.  Then when Ron sees Hermione again she starts hitting him and throwing stuff at him.

(Damn, it sucks to be a Weasley)

5.  Harry Potter breaks all the dating rules

Harry loves showing interest in or dating all the women he shouldn't date. He decides of all the millions of people he could shack up with, his best friends younger sister is TOP of the list.

Ron kind of loses his shit when he sees Ginny on a date with Dean Thomas.

It's clearly a very sensitive subject for him.  So Harry then proceeds to date Ginny without telling him or asking if he is cool with it.

But then when Harry is on the road and still dating Ron's sister, he puts off some weird vibes with the love of Ron's life.
And the tension between the two of them is bad enough to later give Ron nightmares involving Harry and Hermione making out naked and telling him he's worthless and nothing.

Maybe Ron wouldn't have so many freaking insecurities if Harry wasn't such a terrible friend.

What do you think?  Was Harry overall a bad friend to Ron?
